SECAB ARSI ARTS, SCIENCE & COMMERCE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN

The inception of SECAB Women’s Degree College was a landmark in the academic life of undivided district of Bijapur and Bagalkot. It was a long cherished dream of Mr. S.A.Punekar to establish an Arts and Science First grade college for women to realize the dream of higher education of these two districts. Thus, our journey began in 1974 only with Arts section, and since then we have never looked back. Over these three and half decades of time, the institution has grown both in strength and quality, and over the year it has produced thousands of women graduates with skill, confidence and wisdom to face life. We are proud to have produced responsible, resourceful and dynamic women graduates who have been making contribution not only in their domestic life but also in professional and social life.

The institution’s main motto since beginning has been to impart a secular skill oriented, useful knowledge which can prepare women for a self-reliant life. Therefore, our emphasis is not just to prepare them for examination but to make successful and resourceful citizens. Therefore, our target is complete education.

College Profile

SECAB’s ARS Inamdar Arts, Science and Commerce College for women is affiliated to Karnataka State Women’s University, Bijapur. It conducts undergraduate courses in Arts and Science (B.A and B.Sc) in both Kannada and English medium. The college has been accredited by NAAC with B+ Grade. The college has been also adjudged as one of the best ten colleges in the Karnataka State. Recently the college has been recognized by the UGC 2(f) 12(b) and also a college with potential for excellence. The college is situated in a beautiful, airy and spacious campus of Jalnagar (Hudco Cross) and is well connected to all parts of the city by roads, city public transport system and is very safe, exclusive and convenient for girl students. The college has all infrastructural facilities like classrooms, staff-rooms, girls waiting room, office library, hostel, play ground, auditorium, bank, hospital, pay phone etc., is free from pollution and noise and it provides an ideal learning atmosphere.

The college offers 18 different subjects in Arts and Science streams at UG level. This provides a wide range of very unique and job oriented subject combinations which can build the career of women.

‘The Sunday Indian’ a leading monthly magazine of this country has conducted an objective survey of the opinions of the students and parents and published in 2009 the list of top ten colleges in Karnataka and our college has been adjudged as having fifth position among ten outstanding institutions of the college.

College with potential for excellence

Recognizing the standard and best academic practices of the college. The University Grant Commission has recognized the colleges in 2010 as the college with potential for excellence. Infact very few colleges of North Karnataka have been honoured with this recognition. This recognition is an acknowledgement of the potential of the college to achieve excellence in its academic pursuits.

Teaching of life skills

Our higher education has become too formal and too academic and is not sufficiently emphasizing the actual life skills required by a woman to lead her life successfully and effectively. Therefore the college has included in its regular circular the essential elements like house keeping, food preparation, washing of clothes, sense of hygiene, cleanliness, table nanners, stitching, dress making, child rearing, nutrition etc.
